I can't figure out how to send you guys a message, but I figure this will reach you anyway.
I guess it seems to me, that in this website devoted to securing justice, you'd give a little more thought to the "passing of JIII." I understand that this is supposed to be a positive website, but I don't think it does anyone any good to ignore pertinent facts or events in this case.
John III was murdered. Beaten to death. I feel like this is, among other things, yet another illustration of the gross injustice that has become characteristic of the Alaska "justice system."
If anything, I think that this should fuel the drive you have to get Mechele out. Life is fragile and short. Tragedy seems to be common place these days. I think that it would give your readers a sense of urgency that was not previously there.
Rest in peace Pops. We are still on your side and the fight isn't over. Your innocence will be proven and your murderers found, I swear to you. You'll rest as an innocent man, you have my word. Love, Boy (John Thomas Carlin IV) jcarlin128@yahoo.com
John, your message breaks my heart. I'm sorry there's so much junk going on out there. I'm sorry this happened to your father. Peace to you.
Laura, we certainly are driven to get Mechele out of prison, but are entirely dependent on working through the legal system, which can seem quite slow. It is important to us to be very careful in all we say and do so as not to make a misstep while the appeal is in process. At this point, I'd rather say nothing than say the wrong thing. However, I felt it important that we take a moment to publicly honor Carlin's sad passing.
We are very grateful for your concern and those of other like-minded folks. It is helpful as we wade through this situation.
I am sorry for your loss, and for the way your father's life came to an end--not only his death but the last two plus years, as well.
This tragedy is especially hard for you, so please know that there are people, even strangers to you, who are aware and thought of you when we learned of your father's death.
Mechele, I pray for you and think about you every day. First, my prayers go out to John and his son, family and friends. The people who run the Seward Prison are obviously idiots and incapable of running a prison. And the people who call themselves investigating his murder-what a joke. The Alaska Justice System? There is no justice here. Secondly, to Mechele and her family, when it come times for your appeal, I pray that you will be vindicated and can finally go home.
Free Mechele is run by friends and family of Mechele Linehan with occasional input from Mechele's husband, Colin. Mechele was convicted in October 2007 of conspiring to murder Kent Leppink. This conviction was overturned on appeal in February 2010, after she had served over 2 years in prison. Mechele is currently out on bail with heavy restrictions in Alaska, awaiting a second trial. We believe that this trial will prove her innocence, if the prosecution doesn't drop it before then due to lack of evidence.
Please be aware that this site is heavily moderated. Only positive sharing on the journey to true justice will be the focus here.
We have the deepest condolences for the Leppink family, but believe a mistake has been made in finding the person(s) responsible for the death of their son.
Prior to Judge Volland's April 2008 sentence of 99 years for Mechele, numerous family, friends, and even strangers wrote letters asking for leniency based on what we know of her. We have been collecting and posting as many of these letters as we can, in order to create a more complete picture of who Mechele truly is, as seen by those closest to her. If you have a letter you'd like us to post, let us know.
