About This Site
Free Mechele is run by friends and family of Mechele Linehan with occasional input from Mechele's husband, Colin. Mechele was convicted in October 2007 of conspiring to murder Kent Leppink. This conviction was overturned on appeal in February 2010, after she had served over 2 years in prison. Mechele is currently out on bail with heavy restrictions in Alaska, awaiting a second trial. We believe that this trial will prove her innocence, if the prosecution doesn't drop it before then due to lack of evidence.
Please be aware that this site is heavily moderated. Only positive sharing on the journey to true justice will be the focus here.

Sentencing Letters
Prior to Judge Volland's April 2008 sentence of 99 years for Mechele, numerous family, friends, and even strangers wrote letters asking for leniency based on what we know of her. We have been collecting and posting as many of these letters as we can, in order to create a more complete picture of who Mechele truly is, as seen by those closest to her. If you have a letter you'd like us to post, let us know.

Good, it's about time, hope she can get on with her life.
This is awesome i am glad that this wonderful woman is finally free and able to live her life again. I wish her all the best and a happy New Year as well its time for her to have nothing but happiness in her upcoming future.

I have been following Michelle's case on TV (dateline, etc.) and online and was THRILLED when her conviction was overturned...
Why prosecutors would waste time and taxpayer-money on another trial is beyond me. I think Michelle has done SO much with her life since the alleged murder that even if she was in some way involved (which I doubt she was) she has proven herself to be a good a decent human being and contributing member of society - call it time served!
The only reason she was convicted in the first trial was because she spent some time as an exotic dancer. Women are always held over the coals (or whatever) if they were, at any time in their life, a stripper. Had she been a sales associate at Macy's or even 7-11, would the headlines shout, "store clerk plots murder!"
uhhhh, NO! they would just say "woman" or "girl" but do some exotic dancing and you are BRANDED for life, 'STRIPPER'
The media eats it up and unfortunately for Michelle, so do juries!
(I have never danced, but I feel bad for the women who are persecuted for it - especially the ones who go on to earn Master's Degrees)

There was a time I remained appalled and fascinated at some of the blog comments regarding this case . But then I noticed that many were locals who were inside for winter and probably needed something to pass the time . I do wish it were known among the HATERS that the issue with the movie reference wasn't only that it was thrown out as evidence. The witness/ apparently one "former stripper" who retained her credibility/ was found to be lying per her own personal journal. That bugs me. Anyway Sandy I hope your grown kids give you smooth sailing in the coming new year!
I have seen your story 3 times on 48 Hours ID. I am a 66-year old grandmother. I have always thought you were innocent. I still do. Please know that my prayers are with you and your wonderful family. I believe that the man that was convicted acted alone. I pray for you to be back with your family. I just wanted you to know that I believe you and I think Lepinnk set you up himself because of his disappointment. I believe that he was a sick and lonely man. I'm so sorry that you are having to deal with his mental troubles.
I've been following her case for several years and never believed she was guilty. I am very happy for her, her family, and her friends that she is out. Good luck to you, Mechele!
My hope for Mechele is that she will soon be able to move on with her life with her family who needs her, loves her, and wants her home. It is sad and scary that a person could be convicted on little or no evidence and then removed from the productive and happy life she was living. Watching the show on 48 Hours, I remember being astounded that she was actually convicted of murder and I agree with Karaleigh that she was unfairly judged at least in part because she used to be a dancer. I hope that Mechele's legal battles will soon be behind her and that she will be able to return home to her family soon!
