Happy Birthday to Mechele

Of course, this is not the birthday we would wish for our friend Mechele, but it is what it is, and I would like to acknowledge her. It's been a tough year, but she has held up with grace and humanity. She is strong. She is kind. She will make it through this with deeper understanding and compassion for all.

Last year, I flew to Alaska for Mechele's birthday during her trial. I brought my young son. We all stayed together in a hotel suite. My son got sick. Many people got sick, but he was the first. It was bad. Stomach flu. It was coming out everywhere. I felt awful on many levels. But Mechele was Mechele. We had come there to support her, and she was cleaning up my kid's puke at 2:00am during her murder trial. When I apologized, she said, "Oh I'm just glad we could help you. You know, you're family." That's just who she is.

Happy Birthday, Mechele.

Did she get the TV? Or somehow have a perk for today?

Not sure. I talked to her very briefly last night. It is always hard to remember a few weeks worth of questions in a 10-15 min phone call! :) Oh well. I will be going up there in about 2 weeks. We should be able to have some good time together.

That's nice. That you will see her.

My concept of prison life is probably pretty old-fashioned, so it is challenging for me to imagine what it is like for the women there.

Just a thought, which may have been previously considered. Did Ken possibly set all this up to get back at Mechele for not marrying him? The letter seems so premediated and seeks only revenge. Is it possible that he set up his own murder if he was mentally unstable. Just somethings I have thought about and like I said I am sure the lawyers have considered the same thing and there is no evidence to substaniate the scenario. Good luck an I wish Mechele and her family the best.
